Timken® ADAPT™ Roller Bearings

The Timken® ADAPT™ bearing combines the traditional cylindrical roller bearing and spherical roller bearing configurations. Its proprietary outer race and roller profiles plus a cylindrical inner ring combine the key attributes of both bearing types. This unique three-point contact design geometry provides simultaneous misalignment and axial displacement performance, optimizes contact stress distribution, and helps promote roller stability. The result is a more dynamic, more reliable bearing. Cross section illustration showing the design of the ADAPT bearing allows for simultaneous axial float and a misalignment capacity of 0.5 degrees. The rollers align with the inner ring regardless of axial displacement and misalignment. Key Benefits Proven Performance Timken conducted extensive in-house testing against equivalent-size toroidal bearings from leading brands. Results confirm ADAPT bearings offer: Infographic shows key benefits including higher load ratings up to 7%, lower operating temperatures of 5º-10ºc cooler, less running torque between 5-10% and longer service life up to 30%. Including 21 heat generation and bearing life tests conducted on 170 ADAPT and 50 competitor bearings; over 70,000 testing hours and over 8 years; bearings manufactured to ISO 2212 boundary dimensions (60 & 110 x 28 mm); speeds ranging from 1200 to 4800 RPM; loads between 10 and 50 percent of ISO calculated C1 rating. Easier Installation The ADAPT bearing consists of an inner ring, outer ring, and roller/retainer assembly. The separable components simplify installation, removal, and inspection. The retainer holds the rollers in position, creating a single assembly that prevents the rollers from being damaged during mounting and dismounting. The inner ring and outer ring can be installed in either direction, helping to avoid common mounting errors. No special tooling is required. ADAPT for Continuous Caster ApplicationsThree quarter angle view of the three main ADAPT bearing components on a white background – inner race, cage and rollers and the outer race. The metal industry’s tough environment places extreme demand on equipment. That makes maintaining operations and reducing downtime essential in continuous casters where performance and reliability are critical. ADAPT’s innovative design redefines the preferred choice of bearings for the float position in strand roll support segments. All cylindrical roller bearing

All cylindrical roller bearing configurations (except RAA) provide precision control of the rollers for operation over a wide range of speeds with precision-ground, double-ribbed guide flanges on one ring. These roller bearings are found in turbine engine mainshaft, transmission and gearbox applications with high radial loads. Size range: 22 mm to 300 mm OD (special designs up to 600 mm are available) Design Attributes: RF and RJ configurations are designed for applications requiring axial position control or limited thrust capabilities in one direction. For applications operating at higher loads and speeds, the RJ configuration is designed for easier lubrication with an oil jet onto the inner race. Types RU and RN are full-floating configurations that allow limited axial motion during operation. RN is less prone to slip or skid under lighter loads or varying loads at high speeds. RU is easier to lubricate under heavier loads. Types RUS and RNH bearings are used in integral designs where the rollers run directly on a hardened and ground shaft or housing. Performance characteristics are similar to RU and RN. The RAA configuration has single-ribbed inner and outer rings and performs under low speeds or oscillating conditions. It has high guide flanges to accept some thrust in one direction. Applications: Turbine engine mainshafts Transmissions Gearboxes

Poly-Round® Bearings

Poly-Round® bearings are plain bearings that are made of high performance bearing-grade polymer materials or specialty metal alloys. The material incorporates lubricity into its composition, allowing the unit to operate as a bearing without any grease (Class III plane bearings). ‘No grease’ eliminates the necessity of seals or shields. Advantages of Poly-Round® bearings include: ZERO grease Completely non-corrosive Sanitary: the only USDA-Accepted bearings available Nothing to contaminate process Unaffected by washdown or process moisture Eliminate seals and shields Reliable operation: predictable change-out Very low maintenance Ideal for HACCP/HARPC programs

Angular Contact Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings

Timken’s spherical plain bearings (SPBs), or bushings, are metal-on-metal bearings consisting of a spherically ground inner ring housed in a mating outer ring without any rolling elements. While all plain bearings are precision ground and made from through-hardened steel, custom orders are available and can include special materials, clearances, surface finishes or configurations to accommodate unique applications. Our SBT and SBDT designs feature lubricating holes and grooves in the outer ring for easy relubrication through the housing. Available in inch and metric sizes from 12.7 mm to 600 mm (.5 in. to 23.622 in.) bore Design Attributes Rings manufactured from hardened steel help deliver consistent, reliable performance. Phosphate-treated rings coated with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) minimize friction of contacting surfaces. Simplified housing and shaft designs reduce installation time. Applications A-frames, dump cylinders, front and rear struts, and steering cylinders for mining trucks Equalizer track bars, lift and tilt cylinders, push blades, trunnion balls and ripper blades for bulldozers Articulated joint upper and lower steering cylinders and boom and bucket cylinders for wheel loaders Stick and bucket cylinders for hydraulic excavators Additional applications for space shuttles, heavy movable structures and miscellaneous vehicles

Radial Spherical Plain Bearings with Lip Seals

This series of plain bearings is similar to the SF and FS types, but also includes lip seals that are retained in the outer ring and withstand high grease pressures during lubrication. These lip seals assure full distribution of the lubricant to all bearing surfaces and protect against internal contamination. While all of our plain bearings are precision ground and made from through-hardened steel, custom orders are available and can include special materials, clearances, surface finishes or configurations to accommodate unique applications. Available in inch and metric sizes from 12.7mm to 600mm (.5 in. to 23.622 in.) bore Design Attributes Rings manufactured from hardened steel help deliver consistent, reliable performance. Phosphate-treated rings coated with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) minimize friction of contacting surfaces. Simplified housing and shaft designs reduce installation time. Lip seals provide even lubricant distribution and protection from contaminants. Designed for interchangability with SF and FS series.
